A Bushing In this Location? It just doen't make sense!
The tension of the drive chain alone is too much for a bushing tocarry for long and it is almost impossible to keep oiled... shouldn't thistop rotating element be designed to carry that load and never need oiling?
What is your time worth? With this vastly improved product of mine, you will spend the same time or less in installation but with results that the original can’t even begin to compare to. There IS NO comparison! Just to feel one of these in your hand will convince you of its necessity.
I know it is a bit more expensive but you should never have a failure at the top of this shaft again.
Imagine if cars or bicycles used bushings at the wheels,besides being noisy and requiring much more power, you would most likely be broken down within 5 miles! With ball bearings one can easily expect thousands of smooth trouble free and much quieter miles with very low rolling resistance.
The bearings I have used in this modification are High Quality ABEC rated which means they have closely monitored specifications and come greased and sealed.
I also tap the 3 attachment holes with the standard 10/32 thread which makes installation a breeze! The standard replacement package comes untapped which makes at least one screw very hard to start and tighten.
I’m sure you will find this upgrade to have much smoother action but better still is the fact that there will be Zero wear up there anymore and so, should last forever!
I don’t make a lot doing this but it is fun and I believe it is well worth putting out there!

I have included pictures of how my opener failed after just a few short years. The Bushing was completely worn through and the shaft had been eaten more than half way through as it had been rotating completely against the top cap for some time. This caused the shaft to go off axis which in turn caused the worm gear to destroy the nylon main drive gear.
When my opener failed, I found to my amazement that it was designed to do so! So I went in search of a ball bearing replacement and could find none so I machined up and produced my own very high quality version which now I can offer to you. At present I believe I am the only source for this bearing version anywhere.
If you understand the difference between a bearing and a bushing you will no doubt want to purchase and install my version once and for all.

I have found this Gear & Sprocket Set to fit ANY openers that use the 41C4220A where there is no spreader present and one is desired. This roller spreader works nicely and perhaps nicer than some of the original stationary spreaders and the whole unit is covered with a nice integrated steel cover! One only need use the 8 tooth lower sprocket when installing this unit as a retrofit.

I know you said no reason to respond but let me tell you this is a fantastic part!! I have two openers the same style Identical and I changed the one gear
assembly a while ago with the bushing style and now the other bushing went bad so I changed it with your style.
Let me say running both doors last night after your part install what a sound difference and smoother operation of the door with the bearing.
My doors are 10 x 10 so there is a load on them. I will be buying another one in the near future to replace the other bushing style.

12~ I want to commend you on such a great product. The design modification to include a ball bearing and the way you incorporated it was executed with the highest of craftsmanship. The new drive not only uses much less effort from the drive motor, requiring me to lower the force settings on the control board, the drive itself is much quieter. I'm interested in seeing your promotional video when you develop it and also any other products you may have.

Standard Fitment Details
The 41C4206A / 41A3261-1Gear and Sprocket Assembly is the preferred way to "refurbish" your garage door opener as it quickly replaces all of the common wear parts in the opener drive system.
This kit includes all of the 41A2817 Drive / Worm Gear kit, and is easier to install because you do not have to disassemble the output shaft assembly - the spur gear is already mounted on the new output shaft. The assembly also includes the worm gear, and a new bushing under the sprocket which is another common wear item. Fits most chain drive openers manufactured since 1984 by: Liftmaster, Chamberlain, Sears Craftsman, Master Mechanic, and some units from Wayne Dalton. Gears are not available for openers manufactured prior to 1984. Instructions are included in the package.
Note: Also fits openers labeled under various names such as: Sears Craftsman, True Value, Master Mechanic, and some units from Wayne Dalton. Liftmaster also "private labeled" openers for regional suppliers and dealers - usually it is very easy to see that it is a Liftmaster opener with a different name on the cover.Compare your parts to the picture above.
